Planning concrete work around Charlotte

Our service area spans three counties. Charlotte, Matthews, Mint Hill, Pineville, Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson are in Mecklenburg County; Concord and Harrisburg are in Cabarrus County; Belmont is in Gaston County. Each city or town sets its own rules for work that touches the street, so a few details are worth checking before an estimate.

Driveway connections and sidewalks

Replacing a driveway or patio in the same footprint often needs no permit. A new or widened curb cut, an apron at the street or work on a public sidewalk usually needs approval from the city or town that maintains the street, or from NCDOT on state-maintained roads. See our concrete driveway and walkway pages for more on planning these connections.

HOA guidelines

Many Charlotte-area neighborhoods have homeowners associations with rules on driveway width, extensions, colors and decorative finishes. If your home is in an HOA, review its guidelines and any approval steps before you finalize a design.

Piedmont clay and drainage

Red clay soil is common across the Piedmont region. It holds water and moves as it wets and dries, which is why base preparation, compaction and drainage are part of every scope we discuss, whether it is a patio, a slab or a repair.

Structural work

Garage slabs, accessory buildings and foundations generally require permits and inspections from the local building department in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus or Gaston County, or from the city where it handles permitting. Bring approved plans to the estimate.
